Bio

Sylvia has performed around the country and around the world as Christine in “The Phantom of the Opera” in which she was personally directed by Harold Prince.  On Broadway, she appeared as Johanna in “Sweeney Todd” and the Mother Abbess in “The Sound of Music”, both directed by Susan Schulman, and as a soloist with the New York City Opera Company.  Off-Broadway, her performance of Penelope in “The Golden Apple” was video-taped for the Lincoln Center archives.  Internationally, she performed the role of Maggie in the German language production of “A Chorus Line:, recording the cast album with Deutsche Grammophon. 

Her National credits include “La Cage Aux Folles” (Anne) directed by Arthur Laurents, “The Secret Garden” (Lily) opposite Craig Schulman, “Follies” (Young Phyllis) opposite Juliet Prowse, “Jekyll & Hyde” (Emma) opposite Brad Little and Sean McDermott, “Camelot” (Guenevere), “Kiss Me Kate” (Kate), “Carousel” (Julie), “Oklahoma” (Laurey), “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas” (Angel) opposite Fanny Flagg, “The Foreigner” (Catherine) & “The Sound of Music” (Elsa) opposite John Davidson. 

Her concerts have included two particularly special events: a command performance for the Prime Minister of Singapore and a benefit conceived by Katie Couric and given at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, where she sang the role of Maria from “West Side Story” in the gala finale with stars such as Bette Midler, Whoopi Goldberg, Susan Sarandon, Robert DeNiro and many more. 

She has taught masterclasses at colleges around the country and is currently leading private classes for professionals in new York City. 

Sylvia now sings in the medieval duo, ASTERIA.  Heralded by the New York Times as “deeply communicative” and “meltingly beautiful”, ASTERIA won Early Music America’s first Unicorn Prize for emerging artists in North America.  ASTERIA has released 4 highly acclaimed CDs of French love songs from the middle ages, now available on amazon and iTunes and their own website:  www.ASTERIAMUSICA.com.
